It’s already two years since the Lamborghini Urus SUV went from speculation to reality as a concept version arrived at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.
We’ve also had confirmation from a Lamborghini source that the Urus SUV will launch in 2017 and spearhead Lamborghini’s drive to reach annual sales of 3000 cars.
Now, we get confirmation from Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann that VW has signed-off the Urus for production and that it will indeed launch in 2017.
Winkelmann confirmed that the Urus will be the next all new model reveal from Lamborghini as they strive to grab a piece of the still growing luxury SUV market, currently dominated by Range Rover (luxury) and the Porsche Cayenne (sporty) and, by 2017, added to by the Bentley SUV.
At prices expected to be above £150k, the Urus probably won’t be battling Range Rover and the Bentley SUV for buyers, but it could make a bit of a dent in sales of the Porsche Cayenne Turb0 – another VW Group offering.
No doubt we’ll start to learn more in the coming months and years, including whether Lamborghini go with the VW group 4.0 litre turbo V8 or use the V10 from the new Lamborghini Huracan.
