Lexus RX 450h L will debut at Los Angeles
The Lexus RX L will debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show as Lexus make their large SUV bigger to get an extra row of seats in the back.
Back in July, we reported that the Lexus RX L – a long wheelbase version of the Lexus RX – would debut at the Tokyo Motor Show after the Japanese press got wind of Lexus’s plans. But the stretched RX didn’t show up at Tokyo as we thought, but it is arriving at the Los Angeles Motor Show instead, with Lexus starting the tease with a single image (above).
Lexus aren’t being too forthcoming about what’s on offer in the RX L, but clearly they will be doing a bit of an upmarket cut and shut with an extra lump of metal in the middle to make space for an extra row of seats in the boot.
What that will do to the proportions of the RX – which is now a good looking SV – remains to be seen, but Lexus clearly feel they need to have an answer to cars like the Volvo XC90 with its commodious third row.
The single tease image of the RX L shows a 450h badge, so Lexus will be delivering the seven-seat L version with the same hybrid powertrain as the regular RX, but whether it will also be available in 200t guise remains to be seen.
The new Lexus RX 450h L will debut on 29 November.
