The McLaren 570 GT – McLaren’s ‘luxury’ Sports Series car – can now be had with the Sport Handling pack, essentially combining the best of the 570 S and 570GT.
It’s two years since the McLaren 570GT arrived as a new softer, more luxurious take on McLaren’s Sports Series 570S.
McLaren hailed the 570GT as the most luxurious and refined McLaren to date when it launched, and, to our eyes at least, it was, and is, the best looking car McLaren build.
With its new boot and roof design, the 570GT looked just so good, and its interior, with acres of soft leather and soft-close doors, made the 570GT look, and feel, special.
Clearly McLaren buyers feel much the same, with a huge 80 per cent of 570 sales being the 570GT, so McLaren has decided they’ll make the 570S almost obsolete by offering a new Sport Handling Pack for the 570GT, which essentially gives it back the edge and handling of the 570S.
For an extra £4,900 on top of the 570 GT’s £154k price tag, the Sport Handling Pack includes firmer springs, quicker steering, new uprights and the 570S’s stability control settings.
There’s also a set of Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, and the 570 GT also gets ceramic brakes as standard whether you opt for the Handling Pack or not.
McLaren say they expect some 60 per cent of 570GT buyers to opt for the new Handling Pack, and we’d expect the 20 per cent of buyers who currently opt for the 570S to shrink to almost nothing.
Which will probably mean the 570S disappearing from McLaren’s offerings altogether.
