McLaren 620R
The McLaren 620R arrives as a road-legal take on McLaren’s 570S GT4 racer and a flagship model, for now, of the McLaren Sports Series range.
There’s a huge amount to love about McLaren and its stunning offerings, managing to become a credible competitor to Ferrari in just a handful of years. But we do wonder how many ways McLaren can repackage the same basics to deliver a seemingly never ending range of ‘new’ cars without watering down their credibility.
But clearly McLaren has no such reservations, so we get yet another McLaren offering – the McLaren 620R.
Effectively a road-going take on the McLaren 570S GT4 racer, the 620R arrives to top the Sports Series range of McLarens and, say McLaren, retains “the DNA of a fully homologated track car”.
The lack of regulations constraining the GT4 mean the 620R gets a boost to 610bhp to make it the most powerful Sports Series model, enough to get to 62mph in 2.9 seconds and on to 200mph.
Downforce is huge thanks to a 570S GT4 spoiler with three settings delivering increasing downforce, and now with an integrated brake light, offering up to 185kg to stick the 620R to the road, with adjustable coilover dampers with 32 settings, stiffer anti-roll bars and very sticky Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tyres as standard, and full slicks on offer for track time too.
Inside it’s a bit hair shirt with no Infotainment or Air Con, but McLaren will put both in if you wish, and at no cost.
McLaren are offering just 350 620Rs, each costing £250,000, although that’s before you let MSO loose.
