Back in August, at Pebble Beach, the McLaren P1 GTR was revealed as a lighter, more powerful track P1 as McLaren looked to mimic the owner benefits Ferrari offers its FXX clients with a P1 based driver programme.
The GTR gets an interior even more stripped-out than its road-going sibling and comes with a steering wheel based on the MP4-23’s F1 wheel, lightweight DTM-style seats with a carbon fibre shell and six-point harness – which will specially set up for each owner and mounted directly to the chassis – and retaining its AirCon for better comfort.
As for the Driver Programme, McLaren say clients will get access to off-limits areas at Woking including the use of McLaren’s racing simulator, events at at least six F1 tracks a year, a dedicated race team to care for their car including a personal driver coach and head engineer.
McLaren P1 GTR Programme Director, Paul Mackenzie, said:
The programme is about enabling our drivers to get the most out of the McLaren P1™ GTR. Before they get out on track, each driver will join us at the MTC and have unprecedented access to the cutting edge facilities, including the racing simulator.
This will enable drivers to build up a greater understanding of the car’s capabilities and true performance, as well as learning the braking and turn-in points before they arrive at the circuit. It also allows them to analyse and discuss their performance ahead of testing themselves in the real world situation, so they are fully prepared when they take to the track.
All you need to take part is a McLaren P1 and deep enough pockets to add the P1 GTR in to the mix too. Around £3 million should do it in total.
