McLaren P1 LM SMASHES Goodwood Hillclimb record
The McLaren P1 LM – a P1 GTR made road legal – has smashed the Goodwood hillclimb record at the Festival of Speed in the hands of Kenny Brack.
Just last week the McLaren P1 LM was revealed as the closest thing you’ll get to a road-legal track car from McLaren, developed and modified by McLaren’s long-time partners Lanzante, it stands as the ultimate P1 and spiritual successor to the legendary McLaren F1 LM cars. The reveal of the P1 LM last week was all about its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend, and a big part of the weekend for the P1 LM was running up the hillclimb at Goodwood in front of a very appreciative crowd.
But the P1 LM wasn’t just running up the hillclimb to showboat, it was doing it with intent in front of the crowd, and in the hands of Kenny Brack, with the aim of grabbing the record for a road legal car. Which it did with ease, smashing the record and setting a new time of just 47.07 seconds – six seconds quicker than Jenson Button managed in a regular P1.
But although the P1 LM took the record easily, Brack looked like he was working hard all the way up the hillclimb as the P1 bucked and weaved up Goodwood’s tarmac strip, looking like it was fighting Brack’s wishes every step of the way.
But the McLaren P1 LM lost the fight with Brack at every step. Enjoy the video.
