The new Mercedes X-Class Pick-Up has been revealed as Mercedes take the Nissan Navara and created the first Posh Premium Pick-Up. On sale late 2017.

In the last twenty years, Mercedes has moved in to just about every niche and market it can, going from a maker of high-end saloons to delivering the three-pointed star on to everything from compact hatches to soft-roading SUVs. And now it’s time for the Mercedes Posh Premium Pick-Up.

Revealed last night, the new Mercedes X-Class is what you get when you take the very able Nissan Navara Pick-Up and add Mercedes glitz and ‘Premium’ polish.

From the side, you might be hard pushed to tell the Mercedes from the Nissan, but there’s no missing the in yer face three-pointed star on the over-sized grille at the front, and if you spend more (there are no X-Class prices yet) you’ll get more chrome and more glitz as you move from X-Class Pure through X-Class Progressive and on to X-Class Power.

Bigger than the Navara, the X-Class is 5340mm long (up 40mm on the Navara) and 70mm wider, but actually sits a bit lower to add purpose to its look.

Engine choices are the 161bhp X3220d and 188bhp X250d 2.3 litre four-pot diesel with six-speed manual (an auto option will be available), both with selectable 4MATIC 4WD, with a 255bhp V6 diesel arriving in 2018 with permanent four-wheel drive.

Suspension comes by way of double wishbones at the front, but at the back there’s a multi-link set-up and there’s also springs tuned to give a more car-like ride.

That car feel extends to an interior which is quite familiar Mercedes territory, with good looking seats, an 8.4″ infotainment screen and digital driver display in higher-end models, with safety stuff like Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Assist and Active Brake Assist all present and correct.

Mercedes UK are already taking orders for the new X-Class, with first deliveries expected before the end of 2017. Prices are expected to start at under £30,000 (+vat).
