Mercedes EQ Silver Arrow electric concept for Pebble Beach
The Mercedes EQ Silver Arrow electric concept debuts at Pebble Beach as Mercedes use its Silver Arrow Racer history to showcase its electric future.
The Mercedes EQ C is just around the corner to take on electric SUVs like the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron, so Mercedes has been busy with both fluff and fanfare around its electric future. This, the Mercedes EQ Silver Arrow, is a bit of both. With Jaguar already using its history to deliver electric E-Types, Mercedes has been digging in its own history to deliver the EQ Silver Arrow as homage to the streamlined V12 W125 Rekordwagen, a record-breaking Mercedes which clocked 269mph on Hitler’s new Autobahns in 1938.
The concept echoes those slippery, single-seat 1930s cars, but incorporates design elements we can expect in the upcoming range of Mercedes EQ electric cars and is built on Mercedes new MEA Platform, and although its silver, the stunning paint job conceals a carbon body.
As well as the modern carbon fibre body, the EQ Silver Arrow gets advanced aerodynamics too, including spoilers which deploy at speed at the back and also act as an air brake.
Inside is a mix of 1930s and the future, with the single-seat cockpit complete with tan leather and wood, but featuring a big digital display in front of the driver and an additional screen set in the steering wheel.
Mercedes aren’t being too specific about performance, but they do say the electric powertrain delivers up to 739bp – much the same as the V12 W125 Rekordwagen – powered by an 80kWh battery pack good for a range of 249 miles.
Fluff and fanfare for Pebble Beach.
