The Mercedes GLB SUV will arrive in concept guise at the Shanghai Motor Show this month, ahead of which we get an interior tease.
How many SUVs does any car maker need? It would seem, for Mercedes, as many as they can squeeze out – even a niche within a niche.
So we’re getting a new Mercedes SUV – the Mercedes GLB – which is similar under the skin to the Mercedes GLA, but look a bit like a Mercedes G-Wagen and be the B-Class’s SUV sibling. With us so far?
We saw the Mercedes GLB out testing last year, confirming its arrival and its baby G-Wagen two-box shape, although it does seem likely it won’t go as far as having the real retro looks of the G-Wagen, but be more like an updated, smaller, take on the old GLK’s boxy shape.
With a platform from the A-Class you can expect a similar range of engine options too, and although it’s probably unlikely we’ll see a AMG GLB 45, it’s highly likely we’ll see a GLB 35; after all, if the G63 exists, why shouldn’t a swift-ish GLB 35?
But we’ll find out exactly what the GLB offers at Shanghai – even though Mercedes are saying what they are showing is a concept – although now we know, thanks to the image above, that the interior of the GLB is not going to be a million miles way from the A Class, with big screens abounding.
Contain your excitement.
