New Mercedes GLB – a ‘Baby G-Class’ – spied on Video
The new Mercedes GLB looks set to be a new chunky, boxy compact-ish SUV from Mercedes, using G-Class cues to deliver a family-friendly practical SUV.
If you want a Mercedes SUV you have plenty of choice, from the ‘not really an SUV’ GLA through to the no compromise new G-Class, by way of seemingly endless others like the GLC, GLE and GLS.But there’s a new Mercedes SUV on the way – the Mercedes GLB.
Looking like a cross between the G-Class and GLA, the new GLB has been spied testing and it looks set to offer something quite different to other Mercedes mainstream SUVs.
For a start, it’s a rather boxy creation rather than the svelte and stylised looks of Mercedes’ mainstream SUV offerings, and it looks set to offer three rows of seats on a platform shared with the A and B-Class models.
Mercedes are planning to offer both ‘Urban’ and ‘Country’ specs of the GLB, making it a proper lifestyle SUV with 4WD and rufty-tufty looks if buyers want, as well as a more family-friendly looking model.
Expect the usual engine suspects including three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel models, but it’s not too much of a stretch to expect at least a GLB 35 AMG model, if not a full-fat GLB 45.
The earliest we’re likely to see the new Mercedes GLB is at the Paris Motor Show – perhaps as a concept – in the autumn, with Mercedes planning to roll out the GLB in 2019.
