The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet (pictured) is a monster of a G-Wagen in every way
The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet has been revealed as the run-out model for the current G-Class, with a Landaulet roof and AMG V12.
Last week we reported on what we thought was the Mercedes-AMG G65 4×4² Landaulet after Mercedes had revealed a single teaser image. We were close with that, but the ultimate G-Class turns out to be the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet. The subtle difference for this ultimate plutocrat’s G-Wagen is that as a Mercedes-Maybach rather than a Mercedes-AMG – the first Maybach-badged SUV – the focus is on the sybaritic rather than the dynamic. Although it still gets an AMG V12 under the bonnet.
Designed to favour the two rear passengers with a Landaulet roof folding back for fresh air (the driver and front seat passenger get a tin roof), a glass divider (which can be turned opaque) between the front and back, two individual seats from the S-Class with reclining and massaging and leather-topped tables.
Mercedes-Maybach aren’t saying what all the Landaulet frippery does to the performance of what started as a G65, but it still comes with that huge 6.0 litre, 621bhp V12 with an earth twisting 737lb/ft of torque.
The G650 Landaulet also gets the portal axles from the AMG G63 6×6 and the G 500 4×4² and diff locks – so it will be very competent – as well big carbon fibre wheel arches and lumps of chrome.
Mercedes ar building just 99 of these Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulets, each at a (huge) price yet to be revealed.
The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet gets its public debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.
