Mercedes offering CASH to upgrade Euro 5 DIESELS
Mercedes is offering subsidies of €3,000 in Germany to owners of Euro 5 diesel-engined to retrofit emissions controls to Euro 6 standards.
The fallout from the VW Dieselgate scandal is still rumbling on, with much of Jaguar Land Rover’s current woes stemming from the subsequent demonisation of diesel, and diesel car sales generally in free-fall across Europe. For car makers like Mercedes, with a huge number of older diesel cars still ploughing around Europe’s roads, the problem is being magnified by plans to ban older diesel cars from cities in Germany, effectively making them a no-go area for diesel car drivers unless they’re Euro 6 compliant.
That leaves owners of older Mercedes diesels between a rock and a hard place – and Mercedes’ PR on the back foot – but it seems Mercedes is biting the bullet on a solution.
The solution is a retro-fit of the latest emissions systems for Euro 5 Mercedes diesels – developed by Dr Pley SCR Technology in Bavaria – which will bring the Euro 5 cars up to the latest emissions standards.
It seems Mercedes is offering owners of Euro 5 diesels – like the E-Class – a subsidy of €3,000, which appears to be exactly how much it costs for the retrofit.
For now, this offer is only open to Mercedes owners in Germany. Should it be offered here in the UK too?

TFL offers incentives to up grade commercial vehicles and taxis why not private vehicles.
And why not nation wide. good commercial sense and good for the planet.

I have a CLS 350 blue efficiency
Euro 5 I would like to convert it to euro 6 as I can’t afford to upgrade my car for a newer one
But also can’t afford £12.50 every time I drive into the ulez zone
Is anyone doing conversions that would be recognised by the DVLA
Khan M says
Yes I think Mercedes’ should offer the change over for an incentive just like Germany

I do drive a CAT6 diesel and our politicians should hang their heads in shame. Sensationalism is live and well at Westminster and the london Mayors office. It is the politicians actions and commnets that have led to the demonisation of diesels. This has led to the crisis that is Land Rover, the rocketing levels of CO emissions fuelled by petrol vehicle sales.
I cannot understand why the media has allowed Sadiq Khan and others to get away with the actions they have taken.
For many diesels are todays right answer. Action should have beeen taken to accelerate the scrappage of older diesels by encouraging switching to CAT6 technology but no lets just cause the misguided collapse in all diesel car sales.
I am chomping at the bit to switch to an electric car but the current lithium technology is clearly going to be overtaken by solid state battery technology and then providing the charging infrastructure can cope sales will boom via longer range and cheaper EV’s.
I am appalled by our political capability. We couldn’t recognise a long term evolving strategy if it hit us in the face!!

Spot on . Inept governance once again and khan continues to get away with it.
Truly astonishing!!! On all levels.
We’re in a absolute state financially with fuel duties in general and he rolls out ULEZ extension, you really couldn’t make it up.
