The new BMW X5 costs from £42,590 for the sDrive25d

BMW has revealed pricing for the new (2014) X5, with the X5 sDrive25d starting at and the X5 xDrive50i at £63,920. On sale November 2013.

We had the reveal of the new BMW X5 this week (which is either a new X5 or a facelift for the current X5, depending on how you look at it, and also the 2013 or 2014 X5) and now we have full UK prices for the new range.

The starting point will be the X5 sDrive25d – BMW’s first rear wheel drive X5 and the first with a 4-cylinder engine – which will cost from £42,590 and comes with BMW’s 2.0 litre diesel which will give economy of 50.4mpg and emissions of 155g/km.

BMW expect the same figures to apply to the next up the range – the X5 xDrive25d – which gets the same four-pot diesel as the sDrive version but has 4WD. It will cost £44,895.

Next up the new range is the version that BMW expect to be the biggest seller – the X5 xDrive30d – which will cost from £47,895 and comes with BMW’s 3.0 litre diesel offering 254bhp – up by 12bhp on the current X5 – 45.6mpg, 162g/km and a 0-62mph of 6.9 seconds.

The X5 xDrive40d – our pick of the range – offers a more potent 308bhp from the 3.0 litre diesel, which makes for a better 0-62mph and only small economy penalties over the 30d (44.1mpg) and costs from £50,665.

The most bonkers diesel X5 is the M50d which gets its wick turned up to 376bhp, can get to 62mph in 5.3 seconds and returns official economy of 42.2mpg (but if you buy the M50d and get over 40mpg you’re not driving it hard enough). The M50d is a big jump from the 40d at £63,715.

The most expensive X5 in the new range – at least until the new X5M arrives, probably by the middle of 2014, is the X5 xDrive50i petrol, which is a bit quicker to 62mph (5.0 seconds) than the M50d but offers official economy of just 27.2mpg. It won’t be a huge seller in the UK.

The new X5 – which will continue being built in BMW’s Spartanburg Plant in the US – comes in SE or M Sport spec and the first models available will be the xDrive30d, M50d and xDrive50i with a release date of 16th November, with the sDrive25d and xDrive25d becoming available a little later (together with, we expect, a new X5M, an xDrive35i petrol and, at some point, a hybrid X5 or two).
