The new Audi R8 Spyder – complete with open top and V10 engine – goes on sale in the UK from £129,990 with first customer cars before the end of 2016.
It’s getting on for eighteen months since the new Audi R8 arrived, and so far has only been available with a naturally aspirated V10 delivering 553bhp in its regular spec and 602bhp in V10 Plus guise. But the only version under the skin of the new Audi R8 Spyder, revealed at the New York Motor Show back in the Spring and now finally going on sale in the UK from £129,990, is the ‘regular’ 553bhp version, although don’t bet against Audi delivering a V10 Plus Spyder at some point in the future.
For now, you’ll have to make do with ‘just’ 553bhp in the R8 Spyder, but that is enough to get to 62mph in an impressive 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 197mph. Which should give your barnet a bit of a workout.
The roof on the R8 Spyder will open and close in just 20 seconds, and be deployed at speeds up to 31mph for the perfect opening pose on the High Street, and the car is 50 per cent stiffer than before for less rattle and shake.
Audi Drive adaptive dynamics comes as standard – with modes from Dynamic to Comfort to please all moods and conditions – as well as programmes for Dry, Wet and Snow, with Audi’s 12.3″ virtual cockpit, the full fat MMI and the new Audi Smartphone Interface for better compatibility all included.
The new Audi R8 Spyder has now gone on sale at Audi’s UK dealers, and although the headline price is £129,990, Audi are making it clear there is virtually unlimited scope for personalisation, so budget for a chunk more if you’re going to be easily persuaded.
