New Nissan Note production starts in Sunderland

The new Nissan Note – revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March – has now gone in to production at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland.

The new Nissan Note arrived at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and has turned in to a proper compact hatch – with plenty of kerbside appeal – instead of the rather bland small MPV it used to be.

With better looks, some nice styling detail and lots of technology on offer – like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning and Moving Object Detection, the new Note looks set to have much more impact when it arrive’s in Nissan’s showrooms than the old Note ever did.

That point of view is given extra credence by the 14,000 orders Nissan has received for the new Note in Europe since it went on sale in July, and now the first Notes are ready to start rolling off the production line at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland.

The fruits of a £125 million investment at Sunderland to build the new Note all kick in to gear today as Nissan’s Manufacturing VP, John Martin, and the Minister of State for Business and Enterprise, Michael Fallon, head-up a ceremony to start the new Note rolling.

John Martin said:

The new Nissan Note is giving mainstream B-segment customers an unprecedented combination of design, technology and safety features which up to now have only been available in premium brands.

This investment is further endorsement of our Sunderland Plant, which is now an international benchmark for productivity and quality as a result of the hard work and consistently high performance by the management and workforce.

The Nissan Plant in Sunderland is already the largest car plant ever in the UK, and the addition of the new Note to its production has created 2,000 new jobs, 400 of then in the plant itself.

Another bright spot in the UK’s automotive world.
