New Subaru Forester REVEALED
The new Subaru Forester has been revealed at the New York Motor Show with a new platform underpinning it and a new 2.5 litre petrol engine. The new Forester doesn’t have a diesel engine option.
The new Subaru Forester – which has been revealed at the New York Motor Show – is, to a great extent, a completely new car but, as this is Subaru, it looks remarkably like the current model.
But under the skin the new Forester get Subaru’s new Global Platform, and its headline engine offering is a new generation of the 2.5 litre flat-four good for 182bhp, with power going to all four wheels and with a CVT gearbox as standard.
What is also planned – although not revealed in New York – is a hybrid Forester, which is expected to feature an electric motor on the back axle, with the petrol engine powering just the front wheels.
It seems likely that the new generation 2.5 litre petrol and the hybrid will be the only powertrain options for the new Forester, with Subaru eschewing diesel engines this time round.
What also seems likely is that a CVT gearbox will come as standard, as we’re expecting Subaru to fit their ‘Eye Sight’ suite of safety technology which, at least so far, is only available with a CVT ‘box.
The new Subaru Forester is expected to arrive in the UK before then end of the year, by which time we should have details on the UK spec.
