The guys over at Auto Express certainly knock out a rendering or two of cars that are to come. They’re not always bang on the money, but they make for interesting viewing (sometimes) and we’ve run one or two of their renderings before.
With the new Vauxhall Astra starting to be pushed by Vauxhall ahead of its official launch at Frankfurt in September, thoughts are now turning to what derivatives of the new Astra are to come. Vauxhall are already committed to the three door hatchback and the estate as the follow up after the launch, but an obvious contender is an open-topped Astra. And if these renderings are to be believed it will be a bit of a show-stopper.
Vauxhall intend dropping the four-seat configuration of the current model, and instead are opting for a two-seater, rakish convertible that should cause a bit of a stir. With a folding tin-top, and probably offering – amongst others – the 2.0 litre turbo offering 270bhp, this should be a cracking car.
But it could be a while before we see it. The Astra hatch and the Astra Estate are penned in for launch next year, and we will see the new Vauxhall Zafira in 2011. Only then are we likely to get to see the new Vauxhall Astra Roadster.
But if this speculation is anywhere close, it should be worth the wait.
