Volvo has added two new dealerships – Billericay and Chesterfield – to take their total to 104 in the UK.
I know, it’s hardly cutting-edge, must-have news that Volvo has opened a couple of new dealerships – one in Billericay and one in Chesterfield. But even though we pride ourselves on bringing you the latest car news from every corner of the planet, sometimes we can’t resist being parochial. And as we’re based in Billericay it only seems fair to give a shout-out to a local business if we can. So we are.
Essex Auto Group has added a Volvo franchise to the long-established Ford dealership at London Road (just before the High Street coming from Brentwood at the junction of Western Road – see, we are local). Which is a very sensible move. Billericay and surrounding areas – Shenfield, Hutton, Ingatestone and Brentwood – are very middle class and affluent (you should see the house prices) and probably match the Volvo target demographic as well as just about anywhere in the UK. So even though we’re in the heart of ‘Ford-Exec’ country here, a Volvo dealer should do well.
And it’s just this sort of demographic that Volvo dealers are chasing. Billericay is a big commuter town (the City is only 25 mins away) so there’s big demand for cars for ‘The Wife and Kids’. And with Volvo’s long-held reputation for ‘Safe’ cars they should do well with well-off families looking for transport for their brood. Plus of course there’s Volvo’s DRIVe range, which should sit well with middle-class eco-sensibilities (you’re right – we don’t exactly fit the local demographic at Cars UK!).
But we’re not deriding Volvo’s range at all. They are making some good cars at the moment and there is big demand for their DRIVe range. We can also see the new C30 and C70 doing well in this area.
Only fair to mention the other new Volvo dealership which has opened in Chesterfield, taking Volvo’s dealer network up to 104.
