We knew last week that the Nissan Pulsar – Nissan’s take on the VW Golf and Ford Focus – was on its way, and now its been officially revealed ahead of a UK debut in autumn 2014.
Underpinning the Pulsar appears to be a version of the same platform that sits under the new Qashqai, and many of the design cues look to have come from the same source too.
At 4385mm long the Pulsar is 27mm shorter than the Ford Focus, but with a 2700mm wheelbase (52mm longer than the Focus) it looks set to offer a roomier cabin with Nissan claiming best in class legroom in the back.
Engine choices for the Pulsar will be an all-turbo range including the 1.2 litre DIG-T petrol which offers 113bhp and the 108bhp 1.5 litre dCi diesel. A more powerful 1.6 litre petrol engine with 187bhp will arrive in 2015 and there will be the option of a CBT ‘box as an alternative to the standard manual offering.
Nissan will be offering plenty of safety and assistance technology in the Pulsar too, with Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure, Moving Object Detection and Emergency Braking amongst the offerings as well as the 2nd Gen NissanConnect system.
The new Nissan Pulsar looks like it has a fighting chance against the market leaders, but only time will tell.
