The crossover / SUV version of the new Peugeot 208 – the Peugeot 2008 – has been revealed officially by Peugeot ahead of a Geneva 2013 debut.

But the first official details from Peugeot of the production version of the 2008 tell us nothing more than we reported on Saturday when we got the first photos.
Peugeot are long on how they’ve drawn on the 3008 Crossover (a better car than you’d expect) to create a B Segment Crossover that will take the fight to everything from the Countryman to the Juke, but very short on any real detail.
They tell us the new 2008 has worldwide ambitions, aimed at a new generation of customers eager to be on the move in urban environments and looking for a car that reflects their personalities. In other words, Peugeot want the 2008 to cash-in on the growth of compact SUVs.
With a design that draws heavily on the new 208 – and with a roof that has dynamic curves inspired by the RCZ’s double bubble roof (although you’ll have to look hard to see it) – Peugeot want the 2008 to do for the brand what the Qashqai and Juke have done for Nissan – take buyers out of hatches and in to SUVs.
Under the bonnet all Peugeot tells us is that the 2008 will get the e-HDi Diesel and new 3-cylinder petrol engines, and there’s a feeling that we’re not likely to see anything other than FWd 2008s, at least until Peugeot decide to throw in a hybrid 2008 at some point in the future.
The new Peugeot 2008 will arrive at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Hopefully, we’ll learn more before then.
