Porsche appears to be teasing the prospect of the Porsche Cayman Clubsport at the Los Angeles Motor Show
Porsche has always managed to coax an enormous number of variations on a theme out of the 911, and with a rocket up its arse to increase sales and volume from new masters VW, Porsche needs to look to fill every niche for every model – and then some.
This year we’ve had any number of new Porsches including the 911 Carrera GTS, 911 Speedster, 911 GT2 RS, 918 Spyder… and it looks as if we were right back in June when we said you could espect a Porsche Cayman Clubsport to turn up at the LA Motor Show.
We had a press release in from Porsche this morning announcing that there would be three new cars at LA including a world premiere. The two we’ve already seen are the 911 GTS and the 911 Speedster, which means – if our report in June was right – that new car number threee will be the Porsche Cayman Clubsport.
Expect the Cayman Clubsport to have more power – although only 13bhp more than normal – and to shed some weight – around 75kg. There’ll be some 19″ lightweight alloys, big back spoiler, tacky graphics and silly door pulls. And for all those losses and pointless lightweight frippery you can expect a big price premium.
How much, which we’ll find out soon enough.
