The Porsche Mission E Concept has taken the Frankfurt Motor Show by surprise as a stunning 600bhp electric supercar – perhaps an electric Panamera to come.
The Porsche Mission E Concept has hit the floor at the Frankfurt Motor Show as Porsche surprise with an electric supercar concept that could preview a range-topping electric Porsche Panamera for the future.Underpinning the slick four-door coupe is a newly developed platform just for EVs, which not only suggest the Mission E is heading for production, but that Porsche is intent on showing Tesla how you make a real electric supercar.
The Mission E has Porsche looks with smooth surfaces, although perhaps more Porsche Racing than Porsche road, and if it previews the design language for future Porsche road cars we won’t be objecting, especially if it’s a glimpse at the next-gen Panamera.
Inside is almost Porsche perfect too, with seating for four in impressive seats, a 918 steering wheel, luggage space front and back and a driving position that looks familiar to any 911 driver. This may be a ‘Green’ Porsche, but it still looks all Porsche.
But it’s what’s under the skin that matters here – as is often the case with Porsche – rather than how it looks, and the powertrain is impressive.
A pair of electric motors – one on each axle – deliver 600bhp and 4WD, enough for a 0-62mph sprint in 3.5 seconds – as well as ‘Porsche Turbo Charging’ which can recharge the batteries to 80 per cent (enough for 250 miles) in just 15 minutes.
Impressive.
