Bentley Electric 4-Door Coupe planned
Bentley are planning to build a new four-door luxury electric coupe using the underpinnings from fellow VW Group Porsche’s electric Mission E.
It seems Bentley are planning a new electric luxury four-door coupe, with the big advantage in development being the platform underpinning Porsche’s Mission E electric car which Bentley plan to use to base their new electric car on thanks to their VW Group family connection.Bentley are already planning to electrify their entire model range by 2025, but this will be a new Bentley at the Flagship end of the spectrum and it won’t be based on any current Bentley.
What Bentley plan to do isn’t exactly clear, but it does give them the opportunity to re-define what the Marque’s design will be as we move in to a new era where there’s no need to design in room for a big lump of ironmongery under the bonnet. Just as Jaguar has done with the i-Pace.
Speaking to Auto Express, Bentley’s Design Director, Stefan Sielaff, said the new Bentley will have different proportions, and will give them the chance to deliver a new design language in a Bentley with four doors which doesn’t try to mimic anything which has gone before.
It’s an intriguing plan which, if Bentley get the design right, could deliver a stunning electric Flagship.
How long before an electric Bentley arrives? Sielaff wasn’t saying, but he did say it will “happen not so far in the future”.
