Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo – heading for a Paris debut
The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo – the ‘Shooting Brake’ version of the new Panamera – will debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.
It’s just a month since Porsche revealed the new Panamera, a new Panamera that looks much the same as the old Panamera, despite which it’s a hugely impressive new car with a new platform., new engines and a new interior. And despite its almost unchanged looks, it doesn’t share a single nut, bolt or panel with the current Panamera.
But this time round, with the second generation Panamera, Porsche are going to be a bit bolder and are delivering a production version of the Panamera Sport Turismo we saw almost four years ago. And now we know it too will get its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.
Offering all the new Panamera does, but with the addition of a an elegant Shooting Brake back end, the new Sport Turismo threatens to become the best-selling Panamera when it hits Porsche’s showrooms – both in Europe and the US, despite the Americans normal aversion to ‘Wgaons’ – with a range of models from entry-level diesel to range-topping Turbo S.
But will the addition of the Sport Turismo to the Panamera range be the extent of its expansion?
Back in 2012, we reported then Porsche boss Matthias Mueller confirming that Porsche were planning to extend the Panamera range with not just the Sport Turismo, but also with a two-door coupe – almost recreating the Porsche 928 – when the ‘New’ Panamera arrived.
At that point Porsche seemed to be planning to deliver the new Panamera in 2014, but it’s finally here, together with the Sport Turismo. So how long before we get the new Porsche 928 as the Panamera Coupe?
