Range Rover Long Wheelbase Autobiography Black: Los Angeles Auto Show (video)

Land Rover has unveiled the most luxurious and roomy Range Rover ever – the Range Rover LWB Autobiography Black – at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

For many, a Range Rover is the perfect luxury car. It can go anywhere, look right for any occasion and is all the car you could ever want.

So it makes sense that the Range Rover manages to compete with luxury transport like Bentley, Mercedes and Rolls Royce, but what it’s never been able to do is compete in outright luxury – and space – with LWB versions of the world’s luxury cars.

But now, with the arrival of the LWB Range Rover, the Rangie can offer a real option for those who want ride in the back and be pampered and cosseted, even when crossing the sort of terrain no normal luxury car can manage.

Land Rover revealed the Range Rover LWB a few weeks ago, but now it’s had it public debut at the Los Angeles Auto show and it does look convincing, especially with the new Autobiography Black trim.

Apart from the extra 7.3″ (186mm) of extra legroom in the back of the LWB, the Autobiography Black also throws in real luxury – developed by Land Rover’s ‘Engineered to Order (ETO) division – with the very best of veneers, leathers and technology to make the back of the Range Rover every bit as appealing as the back of a LWB Bentley (and the view out is better).

Land Rover has also managed to stretch the Range Rover without wrecking it’s proportions; the LWB Range Rover looks absolutely balanced.

The Autobiography Black trim looks set to be offered on the standard wheelbase Range Rovers too – and, almost certainly, on the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport in due course – and the LWB version of the Range Rover will also be available in lesser – and less costly – trim too.

The Range Rover LWB – and Autobiography Black – will launch in the UK in March 2014, with the SDV8 Autobiography costing £102,120 and the V8 S/C Autobiography £105,840.

We don’t have a UK price for the Range Rover Autobiography Black LWB yet, but in the US it will cost around $85k more than the SWB, so you can probably expect a UK price north of £150,000.
