The Renault Clio R.S.16 by Renault Sport is a Concept to celebrate 40 years of Renaultsport and is the quickest road car in their history.
The Clio R.S. 16 has been revealed in Monaco today as a concept car to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Renault Sport – and Renault’s return as a team to F1 – and is the highest performance road car Renault Sport has built – and it could be heading for limited production. The Clio RS 16 has been created by taking the engine and gearbox from the Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy R, bolting it in to the smaller and lighter Clio, complete with re-engineered suspension and an Akrapovic twin exhaust system, to create a car that should outperform anything from Renault Sport to date.
Thde sign team for the RS 16 widened the Clio’s body by 60mm, fitted 19″ alloys and optimised cooling as well as LED RS VISION chequer-pattern lighting signature, a Renault Sport trademark Liquid Yellow paint job and gloss black detail.
Patrice Ratti, Renault Sport Car MD, said:
Our aim was to produce a concept car with genuinely outstanding performance credentials.
On paper, producing a Clio R.S. powered by our most potent engine – namely the 275-horsepower two-litre power unit which delivers peak torque of 360Nm – was an extremely appealing idea, but we had to make sure it was feasible.
The question now is whether or not Renault will deliver the Clio R.S. 16 as a limited edition production model, but even with a price likely to be around £40k we’d have thought it would be a bit of a no-brainer.
