Subaru XV gets a price cut – down by £1300 on 1.6 litre versions

May 18, 2013 By Cars UK

Subaru has announced that the XV Crossover is getting a price cut – for the 1.6 litre petrol version – taking it below £20k for the first time.

We had the debut of the new Subaru XV Crossover at Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011, and by January last year Subaru had decided that the XV should start at £21,295 in the UK.

It wasn’t a bad starting point for an able mid-sized crossover – a high-riding Impreza, in all but name –  but it wasn’t the cheapest offering in the class. But now, with the Yen being a bit kinder to Japanese car makers, Subaru has decided to nudge the price a bit lower to start the XV range off below £20k for the first time.

The price drop for the XV only applies to the 1.6 litre petrol versions, but you can now get the entry-level XV 1.6i S for a more affordable £19,995 rising to £23,415 for the XV 1.6i SE with the Lineartronic gearbox, reductions across the range of £1300.

The 1.6 petrol may not be the most appealing XV, and although Subaru have only reduced prices for XVs with that engine they have also managed to make the 2.0 litre petrol and diesel versions more affordable with a three year interest free deal (you’ll need a deposit of around £6k).

Subaru’s UK Marketing Director, Haydn Davies, said:

The XV has been equally well received by loyal Subaru buyers and customers new to the brand. Keener pricing and zero-per cent credit can only further strengthen its appeal.

The Subaru XV is a decent offering and the price cuts are welcome. But, for our money, we’d ignore the cheaper 1.6 versions and opt for the interest free deal on the 2.0 litre petrol. In the real world it will be almost as economical and a lot nicer to drive.
