Top Gear Tonight: Aston Martin vs Mercedes AMG
Top Gear tonight – Series 26, Episode 5 – is the last of the series with Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce Phantom and Stephen Mangan is SIARFC.
As far as the variety of presenters the ‘New New’ Top Gear has had, the partnership of Matt LeBlanc and Chris Harris is the best (assisted by Rory Reid). But it will end tonight as Matt Leblanc retires to his ranch and Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness arrive for Series 27.
Tonight’s farewell Top Gear episode will pitch the new Aston Martin Vantage with its AMG V8 engine against the Mercedes-AMG GT to see if the Brit with the German engine (and more from Mercedes) is a match – or betters – the AMG GT. Should be interesting.
Rory Reid gets a piece to himself tonight ahead of being exiled to Top Gear’s side show, and gets to play with the new Rolls-Royce Phantom, a car RR still proclaim as the ‘Best Car in the World’, to see if it is, and if the public agree.
The Chris Harris piece pitches the Ford Fiesta ST against the Lamborghini Aventador, not an obvious battle, but on twisty back roads in wales and a multi-storey car park challenge – as well as some track time – we can see where this is going.
Finally, it’s Stephen Mangan as a Star in a Reasonably Fast Car, Matt LeBlanc’s co-star in Episodes.
The last episode of series 26 of Top Gear is on BBC2 tonight at 8pm.
