Toyota drops the price of the GT86 and tweaks the spec – again

Toyota is playing with the GT86 again, this time with a change in spec, and a price drop, for the entry-level Primio and a limited edition on the way.

It’s not long since Toyota had a play with the GT86 with a price drop and a new model range. And they’re at it again. Is the GT86 not selling?

Last time Toyota played it seemed to be in response to a price cut for the Subaru BRZ, but this time we can see no real impetus except a need to boost sales.

That said, there’s not a great deal new on offer, but the GT86 Primio – and entry-level spec introduced when Toyota last titivated the GT86 range – now drops in price by £300, but it also loses its 17″ alloys, which are replaced with a set of cheaper 16″ ones.

Toyota are keen to tell us that an ongoing promotion also means a further discount of £505 is available. Funnily enough, it was available when the last GT86 push happened too. But it does mean you can get in to the cheapest GT86 for £21,195.

Away from the price-cut stuff, the range-topping Aero model now rides on 18″ gloss black alloys and can be had with a GT86 Orange paint job. It also loses its auto gearbox option.

The only other thing Toyota has to offer with the GT86 is a new special edition model, but they’re not revealing details yet. Our guess is it will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The 2016 Toyota GT86 is now on sale in Toyota’s UK dealers, with first customer cars expected in July.
