Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR goes on sale
The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR – VW’s farewell to the current Golf GTI – goes on sale in the UK with prices starting from £34,135.
Last month, Volkswagen revealed the Golf GTI TCR as a farewell model for the current Mk 7 Golf GTI, with the genes of the 2016 TCR touring car but much more in the way of creature comforts.Creature comforts and toys apart, the Golf GTI TCR arrives with a healthy 286bhp from its 2.0 litre turbo engine, with power going to the front wheels through a DSG ‘box and VW promising a 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds.
The GTI TCR comes with 18″ Quaranta alloys, new bumpers, matte black mirrors and TCR badges, with leather steering wheel, Alcantara gear gaiter and door inserts and ‘TCR’ puddle lights.
High performance brakes with perforated discs and special pads make sure the TCR can stop as well as go, and extra cooling nicked from the Golf R.
Starting price for the GTI TCR is £34,135, but VW would like to tempt you in to spending an extra £2k on an option pack with 19″ Reifnitz alloys, lowered suspension, Dynamic Chassis Control and unlimited top speed (which pushes top speed to 164mph). It seems likely most GTI TCR buyers will consider it a no-brainer.
Geraldine Ingham, VW’s UK Marketing boss, said:
The arrival of any new Golf GTI is always a big moment but, with the debut of this exclusive and track-inspired car, I think we are seeing the debut of a future GTI icon.
The GTI TCR’s 290 PS front-wheel drive set-up and stunning looks, along with the established quality, reliability and engineering excellence that Volkswagen brings to all of its cars, promise to make this hot hatch a ‘must-have’ for discerning buyers.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is now available to order at VW’s UK dealers.
