Volkswagen T-ROC SUV teased ahead of a Frankfurt reveal
The Volkswagen T_ROC – VW’s new small SUV – is teased with a new design sketch ahead of a production debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
It’s over three years since we saw the Volkswagen T-ROC as a concept, but now it’s heading for a production debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. So the tease begins.Sitting below the new Tiguan in VW’s SUV range, the T-ROC is aimed at the still rapidly growing market for compact urban SUVs and deliver buyers an alternative to cars like Audi’s Q2.
Looking very similar to the T-ROC Concept, the design sketch of the production model (above) shows it still has a full width grille which flows in to the LED headlights, a compact coupe roofline and a bold shoulder line.
Minor tweaks look to have been made to the air intakes at the front – which have gone from round to square – and the actual production T-ROC won’t look as dynamic as this sketch.
Under the skin the T-ROC owes much to the Audi Q2, and you can expect engine options to come from the Golf, although there’s likely to be an emphasis on petrol and hybrid versions now the diesel landscape has changed so much at VW.
Most of the T-ROC models will come with FWD, although VW are expected to offer their 4MOTION four-wheel drive on top end models too, as well as manual and automatic gearbox options.
Expect more details before too long as Frankfurt approaches, after which the T-TOC is likely to start hitting VW’s showrooms by early 2018.
