Volkswagen’s ‘We Deliver’ will deliver parcels to your VW’s boot
Volkswagen’s ‘We Deliver’ service will launch in the UK in 2020, allowing deliveries and collection of parcels directly from your car boot.
It’s almost four years since we reported that Volvo could deliver parcels to your car’s boot in a novel attempt to remove the ‘no one in’ excuse for failed parcel deliveries, and make receiving parcel deliveries a lot more convenient. And it looked a good idea.In fact, Volkswagen think it was a good idea too, so they are launching their ‘We Deliver’ service in the UK in 2020 offering much the same, following recent trials in Berlin.
Of course, allowing a parcel delivery driver access to your car could be a cause for concern, but VW say they will only have limited time access to its location, only the opening and closing function will be accessible, the access is fully traceable and they won’t be able to leave next door’s parcel in your boot.
If you want to use the service you will have to register (and own a VW) and your car will have to have either the We Connect Plus or the Car-Net ‘Service & Security Plus’ package. Which does mean only the most recent VWs unfortunately.
Andrew Savvas, VW’s UK MD, said:
Even though most of us keep them close by, our cars aren’t in use the majority of the time. We Deliver adds another useful function to the vehicle when it is not actually being driven. It’s another example of Volkswagen maximising convenience for our customers.
