Volvo owner Geely launching LYNK & CO
Volvo owner Geely is teasing what seems to be the launch of a new car brand – Lynk & Co – with a single teaser image and website. Launches 20 October 2016.
Geely isn’t a name that resonates particularly with car buyers in the UK and Europe, but they own Volvo (and London Taxis) and were the first car company in China independent from the state so they’re a serious automotive player. So the news that Geely are planning to launch a new car brand called Lynk & Co piques our interest, particularly as the launch is just a couple of weeks away on 20 October.
The trouble is, we know hardly anything about Lynk & Co or what it’s planning.
What we do have is a single image (above) showing the front grille of a Lynk & Co car, and a new website for Lynk & Co too.
The new website seems devoid of almost anything to do with cars, and is populated by happy, solvent, smiling under-30s enjoying a wonderful urban life on foot and on bikes. Oh, and one person as a passenger in a car hanging out of the window.
That would make us think Lynk & Co is going to be all about electric cars, but the teaser image shows a car grille, not something you actually need on an electric car.
We also have a statement from Alain Visser (who we think is still a Volvo man – Update: Visser is now Geely’s Marketing VP) telling is Lynk & Co is different from anything we’ve ever seen, will launch in Gothenburg and Berlin on 20 October and is a new car brand and model line-up. All very intriguing.
More when we get it.
