The Volvo V40 was Volvo’s best-selling car in the UK in 2018
The Volvo V40 was the best-selling Volvo in the UK in 2018 as Volvo’s UK sales rose 9 per cent to a 28-year high.
We reported recently that Volvo had a cracking 2018, hitting an all-time high with more than 600,000 sales around the globe. And it was a very similar story in the UK, despite the overall UK new car market actually falling.Volvo managed to flog 50,319 new cars in the UK in 2018 – a 28-year high – scoring a 9 per cent rise in sales despite a market which dropped by 7 per cent. No mean feat.
That increase in sales saw Volvo increase its market share to 2.13 per cent (from 1.82 per cent), with the very good – but now rather ancient – Volvo V40 range the best-seller with 13,413 sales, just edging out the XC60 which sold 11,394.
But Volvo’s new compact XC40 contributed well too with sales of 6,846, the XC90 an impressive 6,834 and the V90 4,113.
Jon Wakefield, Volvo’s UK MD, said:
In a challenging year for the UK new car market, we have confirmed our position as the fastest-growing premium car brand. From these results, it is clear that customers are continuing to respond positively to the style, quality and appeal of our range of premium cars, and appreciating the lead we are taking in pushing the boundaries of safety and technology.
With the S60 arriving soon and more new models on the way it looks like 2019 will be even better for Volvo in the UK.
