Volvo sets all-time sales RECORD in 2018 with over 600,000 sales

Volvo has set an all-time sales record in 2018, selling 642,243 cars – an increase of 12.4 per cent on 2017 – the biggest annual sales in its 92-year history.

It’s a bit over four years since Volvo started to renew their model range with the arrival of a new XC90, since when they’ve gone on to replace almost their entire range with new models. And they’ve been very well-received.

The XC60, XC60 and XC40 SUVs lead the way for Volvo as all three rise to the top of their sector with a beautifully judged balance of abilities, the new 90 Series S90 and V90 models, and the smaller V60 and S60, are as good as anything in their sector, all of which has seen Volvo’s sales rise inexorably since the new XC90 arrived.

That success means Volvo has now broken the 600,000 sales barrier for annual sales for the first time since it was founded in 1927, selling 642,243 cars – up from 571,577 in 2017.

The biggest seller has been the Volvo XC60 (189,459) followed by the XC90 (94,182), with the  ‘old’ Volvo V40 range managing a sterling 77,587 despite being overdue for replacement.

Sales also increased across every region, with Europe up by 6.4 per cent, the US by 20.6 per cent and China by 14.1 per cent.

With the new S60 now arriving and the imminent update of the 40 Series range (to add to the new XC40) we can’t see Volvo sales going anywhere other than up in 2019.
