Volvo V40 Test Drives now available through Amazon Prime in the UK

Volvo is looking for new ways to get buyers in to their cars, and the latest initiative is the chance to book a test drive in a Volvo V40 through Amazon Prime in the UK.

The world and his dog inhabit Amazon on a daily basis to grab their latest bargains, so Volvo has decided to tap in to that audience by offering test drives of a Volvo V40 delivered to your door by Amazon Prime.

It’s not exactly a full-scale rollout of test drives of Volvo’s cars, but more of a toe in the water to see what the results are. So bookings are limited, by time and location, and only in major cities.

You’ll need to live in London, Birmingham, Manchester or Edinburgh to book your ‘Prime Now Test Drive’, and even then only on selected weekends in June and July. The available dates and locations are London 9-10 June, Birmingham 16-17 June, Manchester 23-24 June and Edinburgh 30 June-1 July.

To try and grab an Amazon test drive you’ll need to go to Amazon’s Volvo Test Drive page, stick in your postcode and grab a slot which suits. The V40 will then be delivered to your door – home or work – by an ‘expert’ who will talk you through the car and then let you play for 45 minutes. Unfortunately, the experts aren’t trained to take an order from you. Which seems a bit of a lost opportunity. Hot prospect and all that.

It’ll be interesting to see if Volvo get enough sales out of this exercise to extend the offering to its new range of cars in the future.
