The Scottish Car of the Year Awards ceremony was last night, and it’s the Volvo V90 voted Scottish Car of the Year by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers.
It’s quite tough to think of a car that deserves to win the Scottish Car of the Year more than the Volvo V90 at the moment, so the gong heading Sweden’s way last night as the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) held their annual shindig in Edinburgh was entirely appropriate and well-judged.Naturally, the new Volvo V90 didn’t just win top overall gong, it also mopped up the award for best estate car, with other awards spread across a number of marques but with Audi, Ford, Jaguar and Renault grabbing two awards each.
But perhaps the most interesting revelation of the night was that Jaguar won the best SUV award for the new F-Pace. Which is, just like the V90’s award, well-judged and appropriate but perhaps a little worrying for Land Rover.
Other no-brainer awards included the Ford Focus RS as best hot hatch and the Mazda MX-5 as best used car.
Stephen Park, ASMW President, said:
Be in no doubt, the Volvo V90 is an exceptional machine and one which reshapes the estate car marketplace.
Members of the ASMW were impressed by the way it marries traditional Volvo family values with a head-turning sense of style, advanced technology, safety, driving dynamics and one of the best cabin environments of any car at any price.
In short, we reckon it’s the most accomplished new car to be launched this year and one which offers strong appeal in the unique Scottish marketplace.
