VW Plug-In HYBRID SUV with 375bhp teased
Volkswagen is teasing a new large SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain promising 375bhp, 516lb/ft of torque and 31 mile electric range.
Volkswagen are planning to deliver a new large SUV Concept at the Beijing Motor Show next week, and it’s getting a 375bhp plug-in powertrain that’s both frugal – 94mpg – and lively – 0-62mph in six seconds. The tease photos don’t give away a huge amount – and nor does Volkswagen’s press release – but from what we can see the concept looks more like a production car than a pure concept, so it seems likely it’s previewing the next VW Touareg (or, possibly, the 7-seat take on the new VW Tiguan).
We don’t even know whether the concept uses a diesel or petrol ICE engine in combination with the electric motor, but we’d be surprised if VW has gone the diesel route considering the whole dieselgate problems, so we’re probably looking at a powertrain that is VW’s take on what Volvo has done with their T8 Twin Engine plug-in.
Volkswagen say the interior has an Active Info display with sophisticated infotainment, so we’re expecting a fully digital dashboard, and a lounge interior centered on passengers. So we can probably expect some form of autonomous driving ability.
We’ll find out exactly what this plug-in SUV from VW has to offer on the first press day at Beijing on 25 April.
