It’s the time of the year when the finalists for the World Car of the Year are announced ahead of being revealed at the New York Motor Show at the start of April. And it’s an eclectic bunch.
The luxury category is just as diverse, with the electric BMW i8 supercar, new Lexus NX and the LWB Range Rover Autobiography Black all making an appearance, and the Performance category seeing everything from the little pocket-rocket Audi S1 to the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe and new Mercedes AMG GT.
The ‘Green’ lobby isn’t forgotten either, with the BMW i8 making a second finalist list and Volvo’s new XC90 T8 there too, even though it’s not yet in the wild.
All the winners will be found by taking the opinions of a panel of 75 automotive journalists from around the world (including six from England), and a final short-list of just three finalists in each category will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, before the winners are announced in New York in April.
