The new Skoda Superb has been revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, ready to take on the Ford Mondeo when it arrives in the UK later in 2015.
The Skoda Superb may not be on the radar for many thinking of buying a Ford Mondeo, but with the arrival of an all new Superb – first teased just before Christmas – at Geneva that could change.
Despite UK sales of the Superb not being exactly stellar, Skoda has managed to shift around three quarters of a million units in the the fourteen years since the Superb launched, so the new Superb – even though it’s all new – is very much an evolution of what’s gone before.
Now sitting on VW’s MQB platform, the new Superb gets a much longer wheelbase – up 80mm – for more passenger space – and there’s more boot space too – and a design that echoes styling cues seen in other recent Skodas, with a statement grill and slim headlights up front.
Skoda are being a bit cagey about engine options (they promise full UK specs and prices soon), but you can be sure there’ll be a 2.0 litre diesel with a choice of outputs, a 1.4 litre petrol and a 2.0 litre petrol – both turbo – and the option of four-wheel-drive.
There’s plenty of tech on offer too, with a ‘kick to open’ boot, Apple and Android integration via CarPlay, Mirrorlink and Android Auto, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Traffic Alert, Park Assist and Traffic Jam Assist.
With prices starting from just £18,640 when sales start later in 2015, the new Skoda Superb looks a strong contender.
Skoda promise full spec and price details for the UK shortly.
