2013 Audi A6 Allroad

2013 Audi A6 Allroad revealed

Audi are busy showing off the new A4 Allroad at the Detroit Auto Show, but this morning they have revealed its big brother – the 2013 Audi A6 Allroad in Germany.

Audi has only just launched the 2012 A4 Allroad – which is on show at the Detroit Auto Show as we write – but they’ve already got its big brother ready to show – the 2013 Audi A6 Allroad.

Audi has taken the usual Allroad recipe for the A6 by taking the basics of the A6 Avant and making it rufty-tufy and ready for the urban jungle. Only this time, perhaps because the latest A6 Avant is a sleeker-looking car than the last model, the A6 Allroad looks purposeful rather than ugly.

Thanks to the bolt-on plastic bits the Allroad gets to make it look tough, the A6 Allroad is a few millimetres bigger than the A6 Avant, and it sits 60mm higher to deal with rougher stuff. Other changes include the huge slatted front grill and new bumpers, flared wheel arches, stainless steel skid plates front and back, heavier roof rails and protection for the exhaust – just in case you take your new A6 Allroad to the boot sale.

The A6 Allroad also gets proper, grown-up air suspension (unlike the A4 Allroad) which will lower the body by 15mm at speed to help it slip through the air more easily, raise it by 35mm at the touch of a button for the rougher stuff and you can even raise that a further 15mm by engaging lift mode.

Under the bonnet there’s a choice of four engines. The 3.0 litre V6 TFSI delivers 306bhp and 325lb/ft of torque, can scoot to 62mph in 5.9 seconds and averages 32mpg and there’s a selection of three 3.0 litre TDI diesels.

The regular 3.0 litre TDI can be had in 201bhp or 242bhp flavours, with the turbo V6 version managing to muster 309bhp, enough to hit 62mph in 5.6 seconds. The Turbo diesel gets treated to an 8-speed auto ‘box whilst the other three engines have to make do with Audi’s 7-speed auto.

We don’t have any UK prices from Audi yet, but the starting point for the Audi A6 Allroad isn’t going to be far shy of £50k.
