The 2014 facelift for the VW Polo was revealed back in January and, although the cosmetic tweaks were the usual facelift fodder – tweaked bumpers and grill, new lights, new alloys and interior updates – the big changes came under the bonnet.
The diesel BlueMotion also gets dropped in favour of a petrol BlueMotion offering 68.9mpg from its 1.0 litre 3-pot and there’s a pair of 1.4 litre diesels with 75 or 90PS replacing the old 1.2 and 1.6 litre diesels.
Now, a month ahead of VW’s initial on-sale date – the new VW Polo goes on sale in the UK with a choice of S, S A/C, SE, SE Design, SEL and Blue GT Spec at prices starting at £11,100 for the Polo S 1.0-litre MPI 60 PS with 5-speed manual rising to £19,715 for the Polo BlueGT 1.4-litre TSI ACT 150 PS with the 7-Speed DSG ‘box.
The entry-level Polo S gets Audio with a 5″ touchscreen, DAB, USB, height-adjustable driver’s seat, gloss black interior highlights and illuminated vanity mirrors. The S A/C trim adds manual AirCon.
The Polo SE trim adds 16″ Portago Alloys, black gloss grill and door mirrors, front fogs, tinted rear lights and rear glass, Pyramid cloth upholstery, front sports seats and aluminium-capped pedals. The SEL build on the SE spec with 16″ Rivazza alloys, illuminated footwells and front and rear parking sensors.
The range-topping Polo Blue GT gets 17″ alloys, suspension lowered by 15mm, body styling with side skirts and new bumpers, sports seats with ‘BlueSpeed’ cloth and Alcantara bolsters, XDS diff lock, Cruise and Driver Alert.
The 2014 Volkswagen Polo goes on sale today (25th March 2014) with first customer cars expected in July.
