Nissan has revealed a new Navara for 2016 – the Nissan Navara NP300 – with a new 2.3 litre dCi engine, new technology and new looks. Debuts Frankfurt 2015.
There’s a healthy, and growing, market for car-like pick-ups thanks to their increasing refinement and BIK tax benefits, which is why there’s a new Nissan pick-up for the UK and Europe – the Nissan Navara NP300 – heading for a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show before turning up with your local builder in 2016, and looking identical to the Navara NP300 that’s already on sale in other parts of the world.Nissan has given the Navara NP300 a curvier look than the old, rather boxy, Navara (Nissan even claim it looks ‘Sporty’), complete with a new grill and a load bed that’s a class-leading 1578mm (1788mm with the King Cab), with Nissan’s C-Channel load system, in excess of one tonne payload and a 3500kg towing capacity.
Inside, Nissan has also given the Navara a makeover with a sculptured look that creates more space, better ergonomics, spinal support front seats, climate control and new ventilation system for the back seat passengers.
Ride and handling should be improved to thanks to an all-new five-link rear suspension system for the double cab Navara, and updated leaf springs for the King Cab version.
There’s also a new engine for the Navara – a 2.3-litre dCi – which is claimed to be 24 per cent more efficient than the current Navara’s, with a choice of 158bhp and 187bhp, with the 187bhp version getting twin-turbos. You can also opt for two or four-wheel-drive with the standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional seven-speed auto.
The 2016 Nissan Navara NP300 debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, and will go head to head with rivals like the Mitsubishi L200, perhaps the current pick in the sector.
