The new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer – the Estate version of the new Astra – has been revealed ahead of a public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new Vauxhall Astra was revealed back in June, but we’ve had to wait a while for Vauxhall to get round to revealing the load-lugging estate version – the 2016 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer – but now they have, ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.Looking just like the regular Astra at the front end, the new Sports Tourer is much the same size as the old model – 4702mm long – but, say Vauxhall, there’s more interior room and more luggage space too.
The new Astra is a decent looking car, and Vauxhall has done a good job with the Sports Tourer; from the familiar front end there’s a rising and falling arch to the roof that makes the Sports Tourer look quite dynamic, defining creases down the flanks and a tidy back end.
Engine options pretty much follow the Hatch, which means a range of diesel and petrol engines from 100-200bhp, there’s a ‘kick-to-open’ tailgate option, the Astra hatch’s decent interior, OnStar and a bigger luggage area too.
The Sports Tourer may be just an Astra Hatch with a pretty shed on the back, but in almost every way it’s more appealing, even if there’s a small premium for better looks and load-lugging ability (probably about £1k more for the Sports Tourer than the hatch).
The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer may be debuting next week in Frankfurt, but it will be 2016 before it arrives in Vauxhall’s showrooms, by which time Vauxhall should have worked out exact prices and specs.
