The 2017 Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer is revealed ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show as a new estate version of the Insignia Grand Sport.
Back in October, Vauxhall regaled us with the new Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport, a new name for the new Insignia designed, we assumed, to trumpet just how improved the new Insignia will be.
But now we get a reveal for the new Insignia Grand Sport’s estate sibling, which the press release says is the new Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer. Not Insignia Grand Sport Sports Tourer. Or even the rather more sensible Insignia Grand Sport Tourer. So what happened to the ‘Grand Sport’ bit?
Confusion over the new Insignia’s moniker apart, the new Insignia Sports Tourer is exactly what you’d expect – from the estate take on the new Insignia (which, we’re assuming, is still called the Insignia Grand Sport?).
Longer – and with an extra 9cm in the wheelbase for added legroom and stuff room – the new Insignia estate gets more boot space, with 1,683 litre of room with the seats down, enough for…well, quite a lot of stuff.
Estate-specific stuff – apart from the longer roof, flat tailgate and slimmer lights – includes a kick to open tailgate, optional folding electric back seats and a lower flat entry to the boot.
Elsewhere it’s going to be much the same as the Insignia Grand Sport with a choice of 1.5 and 2.0 litre petrol engines, 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesels, front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and a six speed manual or eight speed automatic gearbox.
The 2017 Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer will debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
