Audi C-BEV Concept previews Audi’s Tesla Model X rival
The Audi C-BEV Concept will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show previewing an electric Audi Q6 with which Audi will take the fight to the Tesla Model X.
We discovered back in March that an electric Audi Q6 was in the making, and that it would arrive in 2018 as a pure electric coupe SUV, ready to take on the Tesla Model X.Although it’s at least a couple of years before the production Q6 arrives, we’re going to get a good look at the direction in which it’s heading with the debut of the Audi C-BEV Concept (above and below) at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
That direction seems to have blurred the lines between Audi’s current SUVs and its Allroad models, with a design that takes cues from the Prologue Concept and points clearly at a new Audi design language.
The C-BEV is clearly a concept – with the usual concept ‘must-haves’ like concealed door handles and no door mirrors – but it is showing a sporty SUV that mixes the looks and abilities of an SUV with those of a high-riding estate.
Under the skin, the new Q6 will sit on a version of the platform underpinning the new Audi Q7, and Audi has already declared it will get a range of over 300 miles, easily matching what the Tesla Model X will deliver. Whether it can match the bonkers performance of the Model X P90D, we’ll have to wait and see.
But it seems the new Q6 won’t be sold exclusively as a BEV, with Audi apparently planning a plug-in hybrid version and maybe a hydrogen fuel cell version too.
No doubt we’ll get more pointers when the Audi C-BEV arrives in Frankfurt.
