The new BMW X4 – the coupe take on the new X3 – has been revealed ahead of a public debut at the Geneva Motor Show, with slicker looks and more room.
It’s more than six months since the 2018 BMW X3 arrived, so it’s ‘lifestyle’ coupe sibling – the 2018 BMW X4 – now arrives too with improved looks and a bit more room. From the front there’s nothing to choose between the X3 and X4, there’s a bit of a tweak down the flanks with restyled wheelarches, but at the back it’s much better, with a smooth and almost rounded look, new slimmer lights, relocated number plate and twin exhausts.
The X4 also gets bigger, growing by 81mm and helping make the new X4 look slicker, there’s also an extra 27mm of legroom in the back and more room in the boot too, and with an interior pretty much the same as the new X3.
BMW say this X4 will be better to drive than the current generation, with its lower weight, improved aerodynamics and rear-wheel bias.
Engine options are pretty much what you’d expect from the X3, with all engine options coming with eight-speed automatic, with two diesel options – xDrive20d and xDrive 30d – and two petrol options – xDrive20i and xDrive30i.
Later in the year the performance models will arrive, with the M Performance M40i good for 360bhp and 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, and the M40d good for 326bhp and 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds.
Due to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, BMW must hope this better-looking X4 will be better able to take the fight to cars like the Range Rover Evoque and Porsche Macan.
