The 2018 Ford Fiesta ST is revealed ahead of a public debut in Geneva sporting Ford’s new 197bhp 1.5 litre 3-cylinder petrol EcoBoost engine.
The latest Fiesta was revealed back in November as a more grown-up take on Ford’s top seller, cleverly shuffling the Fiesta a bit further upmarket and leaving room for the new KA+.
But what a new Fiesta also means is that Ford has to deliver a new, more grown-up and more upmarket performance Fiesta ST too. And this is it.
The new ST delivers not only the ST take on the new Fiesta, but a new 1.5 litre, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine delivering 197bhp – up almost 10 per cent on the old ST’s four-pot 1.6 litre normal power.
That extra oomph makes the new ST 0.2 seconds quicker than the old ST to 62mph (now 6.7 seconds) and on a par with Ford’s run-out ST200.
But what it also does is slash official economy and emissions, with the new ST emitting 114g/km (down from 138g/km) which means official economy will be around 57mpg.
It also comes with new Drive Modes tooo, with Normal for everyday stuff, Sport for when you want fun and Track for when you have somewhere proper to play.
Ford will also offer more personalisation options than ever before (a proper money spinner), Recaro seats, 18″ alloys, Ford SYNC 3, B&O Sound and a choice of three-door or five-door models.
Joe Bakaj, Europe vice president of Product Development, said
Our next generation Fiesta ST is true to the philosophy of delivering cutting-edge technology to enhance every facet of the responsive Ford Performance chassis and powertrain.
With selectable Drive Modes and an all-new EcoBoost engine delivering an unprecedented combination of performance and fuel-efficiency, the new model will deliver the most versatile, fun, engaging and rewarding Fiesta ST driving experience yet.
The new Fiesta ST may be heading for Geneva in just over a week, but it won’t be hitting Ford’s UK showrooms until the start of 2018.
