2018 Volvo V60 POLESTAR gets carbon fibre aerodynamic enhancements for added downforce

The 2018 Volvo V60 Polestar gets carbon fibre aerodynamic enhancements to increase its downforce by 30 per cent. Just 1500 being built.

Despite Volvo buying up Polestar to add performance gloss to their models, we’ve not really seen the Swedish company exploit the Polestar brand to deliver proper performance versions so far. Except for the V60 Polestar (and its saloon sibling, the S60 Polestar).

The V60 Polestar arrived three years ago, and now boast a 367bhp Drive-E engine good for 0-62mph in an impressive 4.8 seconds – and it’s very good.

So good, in fact, that the S60 Polestar took the Nurburgring record for a four-door production saloon last year (although we didn’t find out until May this year).

Now, despite the current V60 and S60 coming to the end of their shelf life, Volvo has given the 2018 V60 Polestar (and S60 – although we don’t get it in the UK) some additional tweaks to make it more impressive.

The main changes are the addition of carbon fibre front splitter and side sills which increase downforce by 30 per cent and increase grip and high speed stability.

Other changes include the addition of high-gloss black Polestar alloys, carbon fibre door mirrors, new seat upholstery, blue contrast stitching and Polestar embroidery, and a new colour – Bursting Blue Metallic

The Model Year 18 S60 and V60 Polestar models are the pinnacle of our road car programmes that we have been developing successfully since our first road car was launched in 2013.

The aerodynamic enhancements, combined with other small but important changes, further enhance our base philosophy of a performance car for all roads and conditions, transferring technology and learnings from track to road.

Just 1500 ’60’ Series cars will be produced, and we can probably expect around 200 to come to the UK.
