America is to finally get the Aston Martin V12 Vantage later this year, with sale kicking off with the limited edition V12 Vantage Carbon Black.
You have to love the Aston Martin V12 Vantage, if for no other reason than that it makes every other car in its class look pug ugly or short of breath. In fact it makes just about every car look pug ugly. Apart from its siblings.
But there’s a problem with the V12 Vantage for Aston Martin. It’s just too damn quick, especially in comparison to Aston’s range-topping DBS. But there was an easy answer to that. Make the V12 Vantage a limited edition car just for Europe and the Middle East. No need to bother homologating it for the US.
All that went out of the window after we reported last September that AM were working on homologating the V12 Vantage for the US. And now it’s done, so our colonial cousins can now get more than 500bhp of V12 Aston joy wrapped up in a very nimble work of art.
The plan is for the V12 Vantage to be available in North and South America from later this year, which AM say in their press release is in response to ‘unprecedented demand’ from Aston lovers on that continent and shows Aston’s ‘…ability to act quickly and turn concepts and ideas into reality, giving our customers what they want’. Just like they did with the Rapide, which took four years from concept to customer. Speedy.
But petty little moans about the Rapides’s gestation apart, the Yanks will love the V12 Vantage. And Aston say they’re getting a special limited edition Aston Martin V12 Vantage Carbon Black to kick sales off. Which we’re assuming is the same V12 Vantage Carbon Black announced in December.
Interestingly, all talk of the V12 Vantage being a Limited Edition seems to have disappeared. Initially it was going to be a run of just 1,000. Then we got a limited edition of the limited edition in the V12 Carbon Black. Now the Yanks get the V12 Vantage. And the limited edition limited edition.
Not that we’re complaining.
